About Me

Vítor J. Sá holds a five-year "Licentiate" degree in Systems and Informatics Engineering, a Master in Computer Science and a PhD in Information Systems and Technologies. Its main activity has been teaching in higher education at the University of Minho, the Catholic University of Portugal, the Polytechnic Institute of Porto and the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo, Portugal. In parallel, has worked in software development, having a multimedia product released in the Portuguese market by the largest national publisher (Porto Editora), and has done consulting / training in several national and international companies. He lived for four years in Germany as a Guest Researcher at the Institute for Computer Graphics (Fraunhofer IGD) in Darmstadt, linked to the Technical University of Darmstadt, where he participated in several projects, being the most prominent the EMBASSI project, in the area of Multimodal Interaction and Ambient Intelligence, a strategic project funded by the German government. He has provided consultancy and training to several companies, through the PMO Projects Group, a leading company in Europe in the field of Project Management, including: Autoeuropa, a German company from the Volkswagen Group, Millennium bcp, the largest Portuguese private bank, and CeNTI, a Nanotechnology company headquartered in Northern Portugal. Vítor J. Sá is a Chartered Member of the Portuguese Association of Engineering, a member of the Project Management Institute, member of the Eurographics - European Association for Computer Graphics, and holds a Certificate of Pedagogical Aptitude issued by the Portuguese Institute of Employment and Vocational Training. Vítor J. Sá has participated and published in several international scientific events, having also published several articles, book chapters and a book. He is member of the scientific committe of several international conferences and journals. The most significant international events in which he engaged as a member of the organizing committee were the Eurographics Symposium on Parallel Graphics and Visualization (EGPGV 2006), the International Conference on Global Security, Safety and Sustainability (ICGS3 2010), the International Conference on Digital and Interactive Arts (ARTECH 2019) and the International Conference in Graphics and Interaction (ICGI 2023). Accomplished his PhD work under the supervision of Henrique Santos (Professor at University of Minho and President of the Security Techical Committee of the Portuguese Quality Institute) and Sérgio Tenreiro de Magalhães (Professor at Champlain College, USA, and Director of the Cibersecurity programs) with the title "Gestural Dynamics and Skin Conductivity - an Approach to Multimodal Biometric Authentication". At Universidade Católica Portuguesa Vítor J. Sá held the positions of Director of the Institute of Computing and Data Science, and Coordinator of the Degree in Information and Communication Technologies and the Degree in Applied Data Science. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the School of Health of the Polytechnic of Porto, developing his research activity at LabRP - Psychosocial Rehabilitation Laboratory, from the Center for Rehabilitation Research (Polytechnic of Porto), and in the Intelligent Data Systems group, from the ALGORITMI Center (University of Minho). Its main areas of teaching/research are Multimodal Interaction, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Computer Graphics, Digital Health, Bioinformatics, Programming Languages, Project Management, e-Learning and Media Arts.
