SO1 – Paving the way for a digital and highly connected society: advanced computation infrastructures
Data infrastructures are a pillar for the implementation of a digital and highly connected society. SO1 will explore the synergies between high performance computing, cloud computing and big data and extreme scale data infrastructures. The development of HPC systems addresses the topics of: design of advanced computation systems; systems and data reliability; data security, cryptography and privacy; resilient and fault tolerant systems; virtualization and resources management; reliable and high performance computation; operating systems and middleware; quantum computation and communications; seamless connect
SO2 – Towards an ubiquitous connected future, unleashing the potential of CPS
CPS are co-engineered interacting networks of physical and computational elements belonging to a common system, being enabler technologies for connected products and product-systems. Typically, they integrate physical edge device(s) with communications and data exchange capabilities, and a computational platform integrating algorithms and software, that interoperate at different spatial and temporal scales with a multitude of interfaces and boundaries.
SO3 – A digital transformation for a more efficient and fair society
Digital transformation (DT) is “a process that aims to improve an entity by triggering significant changes to its properties through combinations of information, computing, communication, and connectivity technologies”. Digital twins are digital replicas of physical entities that provide additional data about their status. Modelling of physical behaviours allows the prediction and optimization of system responses throughout its life cycle. The connection between physical and virtual models provides a way of controlling and improving the response of physical entities, an enhanced and safer user experience and product efficiency. DT also requires a strong interaction between the digital twin, CPS/IoT systems, big data issues
