About Me

Maribel Yasmina Santos is a Full Professor in Information Systems in Organisations and Society in the Department of Information Systems, School of Engineering, University of Minho, Portugal. She is a Senior Researcher at the ALGORITMI Research Centre and the CCG/ZGDV ICT Innovation Institute, where she leads the data engineering and analytics group. Maribel Yasmina Santos was the leader of the Software-based Information Systems Engineering and Management Group (http://semag.algoritmi.uminho.pt) at ALGORITMI (Jan. 2017 - Set. 2022), and until now coordinates the "Organisational and Analytical Data-intensive Systems" research track (2009 - ). Her research interests include Business Intelligence and Analytics, with a focus on Big Data Analytics, including data architectures, data processing, data analysis, and data visualization, addressing these international classifications: • Association for Information Systems (AIS) Topics: Decision Support and Analytics (SIGDSA); Geographic Information Systems (SIGGIS) and Big Data Application Processes (SIG-BD). • IFIP Topics: Technical Committee TC8 Information Systems – WG 8.3: Decision Support Systems. • Information Systems - Decision Support Systems: Data Warehouses, Online Analytical Processing, Data Analytics. Maribel Yasmina Santos was Vice-Dean of the School of Engineering at the University of Minho (2019-2022), Dean of the Pedagogical Council of the School of Engineering at the University of Minho (2019-2022), and Associate Director of the Department of Information Systems at the University of Minho (2010-2014). Maribel was actively involved in AGILE (Association of Geographic Information Laboratories for Europe), serving as Secretary-General (2013-2015) and Member of the AGILE council (2011-2015). Maribel Yasmina Santos is a member of the Association of Information Systems (AIS), contributing to advancing data science and analytics and enhancing data's role in driving business insights and innovation. Since February 2024, Maribel has been the Director of the Doctoral Program in Information Systems and Technologies at the School of Engineering, University of Minho. She was a member of the Advisory Board of the Joint Doctorate Program in Geoinformatics (2017-2018), a PhD program funded by the European Commission within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, International Training Networks (ITN), European Joint Doctorates (EJD) -- Universities of Münster (Germany), Jaime I (Spain) and Nova de Lisboa (Portugal). Maribel Yasmina Santos supervised 7 PhDs, 60 MSc and 2 post-doc students. Now she supervises 4 PhD students, 4 MSc students and 1 post-doc. She supervised more than 45 grants in research projects. She is the author or co-author of more than 180 international publications, including books, book chapters and papers in scientific journals and international conferences. She participated (many with coordination) in more than 30 funded research projects; integrated the scientific, program or organising committee of more than 140 international conferences (such as CAiSE’2024 – CORE A, RCIS’2024 – CORE B, ER’2023 – CORE A, RCIS’2023 – CORE B, RCIS’2022 – CORE B); and is co-inventor of two patents, one national (Portuguese) and one international (US). Since January 2022, Maribel has been Associate Editor of the Business & Information Systems Engineering Journal, ISSN 0937-6429 (SCImago Journal Rank Q1).
