About Me

Rui Dinis de Sousa holds a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the University of Georgia, USA, a Master of Science in Informatics (specialization in Information Systems), and a five-year degree in Informatics and Systems Engineering from the University of Minho, Portugal. At the University of Minho, in the Department of Information Systems at the Engineering School, he coordinates and teaches courses related to Business Process Management, Enterprise Architecture, and Enterprise Systems for master's degrees in Information Systems. As a researcher at the ALGORITMI Centre, he is a member of the Information Systems and Technologies for the Transformation of Organizations and Society laboratory at the Information Systems and Technologies research group. His research interests focus on organizational development and enterprise engineering, taking advantage of business process management and enterprise architecture approaches and technologies such as enterprise systems and business process management suites, topics where he has supervised master and doctoral dissertations. Co-author of a chapter on educating future IST professionals for organization design and engineering in a book by Palgrave Macmillan, he is also a co-editor of a book released by IGI Global on Information Systems and Technology for Organizational Agility, Intelligence, and Resilience and a book released by Sílabo on Information Systems - Diagnostics and Prospects, sponsored by the Portuguese Association of Information Systems. He has been involved in the committees of many international conferences, namely in the ones that are conferences of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), as associate editor of the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) and European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS). Furthermore, he was a local organizer of the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS 2017) and the Mediterranean Conference on Information Systems (MCIS 2012). In addition, he worked as a program committee member of affiliated AIS conferences such as CENTERIS and Conf-IRM. Co-founder and vice-president of the Portuguese Institute of BPM (IPBPM), he co-organized the first Portuguese BPM conference in 2008. He served for a decade either as conference or program chair of that national annual event bringing together academics and practitioners, formerly known as BPM Lisbon conference and now Innovative Conference for Organizational and Process Innovation. He was also a co-founder of the Portuguese Chapter of the Association of Business Process Management, where he served as vice-president. He is now the vice-president of the Portuguese Association for Organizational Innovation. He is a board member of the Portuguese Association of Information Systems, where he serves as a Treasurer. He has been the faculty advisor for the Student Chapter of AIS at University of Minho. He was also the co-founder of the Faculty Portuguese Chapter of the Association of Information Systems (AIS), where he now serves as president. He has been involved in national projects co-funded by the European Union for the private sector, namely in the software industry sector regarding the implementation of integrated systems, and national projects for the public sector, namely, for the Ministry of Health on opportunities to improve health information systems and for Ministry of Agriculture on the improvement of business processes. At the international level, he was involved in the World IT project as the lead researcher for Portugal research designed to examine critical issues for the IT workforce in more than 40 countries. He was the Director of a 5-year degree in Business Informatics, a 3-year degree in Information Systems and Technologies, and a master's degree in Information Systems. He was appointed as Deputy Director of the Information Systems Department at the University of Minho, where he served for two 2-years terms. Recently, he has been nominated the coordinator of the SAP Next-Gen Lab at UMinho to explore SAP's latest technologies for digital innovation and transformation of organizations and society. Once again, he is the Director of the master's degree in Information Systems at the University of Minho.
