About Me

Géremi Dranka is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Industrial and Systems Engineering (PPGEPS) at the Federal University of Technology – Paraná (UTFPR), Brazil. He holds a Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Minho (Portugal), awarded in 2021, and a Master’s (2014) and Bachelor’s degree (2012) in Electrical Engineering from UTFPR. His academic trajectory is characterized by a strong interdisciplinary orientation at the intersection of engineering economics, energy systems, transport planning, and decision-making under uncertainty. Dranka is also a research investigator at the ALGORITMI Research Centre (Portugal), where he contributes to the Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) Research and Development Group and to the Economics and Management of Engineering Systems (EMES) R&D Laboratory. Through this affiliation, he maintains sustained international collaboration in modeling, optimization, and economic assessment of complex engineering systems, reinforcing the internationalization of his research activities. His research agenda focuses on the quantitative assessment of the energy transition, with emphasis on renewable energy systems, electric mobility, public transport decarbonization, and integrated energy-transport planning. A defining feature of his work is the development of advanced methodological frameworks for investment appraisal and policy support under uncertainty, combining stochastic simulation, real options analysis, multi-objective optimization, and artificial intelligence. These methods are applied to problems such as photovoltaic system planning, demand-side management, fleet electrification, and long-term infrastructure investment under regulatory and economic uncertainty. Géremi Dranka demonstrates consolidated academic leadership at national and international levels. He is the General Coordinator of the OPTISUS-IA international research network, funded by the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), which brings together institutions in Brazil and Portugal to develop AI-based decision-support tools for sustainable public transport systems. The project integrates researchers, graduate students, and external stakeholders, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and applied research with direct relevance to public policy. He has also played a significant role in research-driven innovation and technology transfer. His activities include the development of computational tools and methodologies for the technical and economic auditing of photovoltaic systems, as well as the assessment of real asset investments in the energy sector. These efforts have resulted in applied outputs, including software assets under intellectual property registration and technical publications with direct relevance to the productive sector. Since 2024, Géremi Dranka has served on the editorial board of the journal Energy (Elsevier), initially as Assistant Editor and subsequently assuming expanded editorial responsibilities. In this role, he contributes to the international scientific community by ensuring methodological rigor, interdisciplinary dialogue, and high-quality peer review in one of the leading journals in the energy field. Overall, his profile reflects a combination of methodological originality, international engagement, leadership in research networks, and commitment to producing scientifically rigorous and societally relevant knowledge in support of sustainable energy and mobility transitions.
