About Me

Currently Professor in the Economics, Management, Industrial Engineering and Tourism Department of the University of Aveiro. Bruno Gonçalves completed his Integrated Master's in Industrial Engineering and Management at the University of Minho in 2009, graduating with the highest grade in the program. His master's thesis focused on the development of agent-based dynamic production planning and control systems, earning a score of 18/20. In 2018, he earned a Ph.D. in Leaders for Technical Industries with a specialization in Engineering Design and Advanced Manufacturing from MIT Portugal, an international doctoral program in collaboration with three Portuguese universities and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA. He received a classification of Very Good for his doctoral work. Throughout his academic and professional journey, Bruno has been involved in various research projects in the fields of engineering and industrial management. This includes contributions to production planning and control, articles information management, implementation of software tools for production activity control, industrial simulation, development of methods for automatic generation of production line simulation models, operations management, and the creation of a decision support framework for hospital operations management. Currently, he is a member of the PT Smart Retail project, which aims to develop, demonstrate, and industrialize technologies supporting a new generation of retail, including the development of autonomous/hybrid stores. Bruno has a significant teaching background, having served as a Monitor, Assistant Lecturer, and Guest Professor at the University of Minho from 2009 to 2020. He also taught as Adjunct Professor at the School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto from 2020 to 2021, where he was the director of the Technical Higher Professional Course in Industrial Management 4.0. From 2021 to 2024, he taught as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria. He was a member of the Scientific and Pedagogical Committee of the Master's in Mechanical Engineering - Industrial Production. With over 15 years of teaching and research experience in industrial engineering, Bruno is a Ph.D. researcher at the ALGORITMI Research Center, with numerous scientific publications in the field. His research interests include the integration of optimization and simulation models in environments of uncertainty and large datasets for operational efficiency in Industry 4.0. In addition to teaching and research, he has supervised several dissertation and doctoral projects, serving as both president and examiner in academic thesis defense panels for Master's and Ph.D. degrees.
