6About Me
Luís Louro (PhD) is an integrated researcher at the ALGORITMI Centre of the University of Minho, within the Industrial Electronics R&D group, in the Control, Automation and Robotics Laboratory. He currently holds a contract as an Assistant Researcher at the ALGORITMI Centre. He completed his PhD in Electronics and Computer Engineering, in the field of Control, Automation and Robotics, in 2010 at the University of Minho, with the thesis entitled: “Control and Representations for Human–Robot Collaboration Tasks.” His research interests focus on human–robot interaction/collaboration, cognitive robotics, manipulation robotics, and robotic systems simulators. At the scientific level, he is the author or co-author, among others, of 8 publications indexed in international scientific journals (Web of Science and/or Scopus), 1 indexed book chapter, and 21 publications in indexed international conferences. He has participated in several research projects funded by national sources – e.g., the BEN Project under the PRR BE.Neutral programme (2023–2025), FCT I-Cater (2022–2025), PRR PT Smart Retail (2022–2024), Bosch-UMinho MIAR under the Connected Manufacturing programme (2021–2024), Bosch-UMinho SAMU under the IFACTORY programme (2015–2018), and FCT CoopDyn (2002–2006) – as well as European projects – EU Marie Curie NETT (2012–2016), EU JAST (2004–2009), and EU ARTESIMIT (2001–2004). In 2022 and 2024, he was a member of the organizing committee of the international conference IEEE International Conference on Autonomous Robot Systems and Competitions (ICARSC). He has received 12 awards, including the Prémio Inovação Jovem Engenheiro in 2003, and more recently had a paper awarded Best Paper at ICARSC 2022. Regarding participation in scientific/academic examination committees, the candidate has served as an examiner in 11 public defenses, 8 of which were held outside the University of Minho. He is currently co-supervising 3 PhD students and has supervised or is supervising/co-supervising 29 Master’s students (17 completed). Since 2019, under two doctoral researcher contracts, he has taught several course units in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Industrial Electronics and Computer Engineering at the University of Minho. He has also previously taught at Universidade Lusíada Norte in the Electronic and Computer Engineering programme (2014–2019) and at the Escola Superior de Saúde do Vale do Sousa – CESPU Group – in the Biomedical Engineering programme (2010–2012).
