Edoardo Sotgiu is currently a Researcher Engineer in the group of Microfabrication and Exploratory Nanotechnology at the INL-International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory in Braga (Portugal), and his research focuses on the field of haptics, including tactile sensors and actuators. He is currently attending the PhD Doctoral Program in Electronics and Computer Engineering (PDEEC) in the area of specialization of Advanced Education in Instrumentation and Electronic Microsystems on MEMS-based ultrasonic mid-air actuators. He is currently involved in the PT COMPETE2020 - FDPanel project on the development of MEMS speakers for car door panels. He was Co-PI in the PT COMPETE2020 - Product-In-Touch national project on the development of a flexible tactile sensor array for surface identification and a pneumatic-based tactile actuator array for VR simulation of the interior car. He received a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pisa in 2003. He joined the PERCRO laboratory of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in 2004, where he worked as a Research Fellow until March 2017. He was involved in many European (PRESENCE, SKILLS, DECISION-IN-MOTION, CENTAURO, WEARHAP) and Italian (RIME, DOC, RONDA) research projects on several different topics like control of parallel kinematics haptic interfaces, bilateral teleoperation system for surgery, autonomous mobile robot based on bio-inspired vision, vibro-tactile and sensing device for perception study, exoskeletal robotic device and virtual reality application for rehabilitation therapy. His research interests regard also biomechanics and human movement analysis, control of exoskeleton robotic devices, robot-assisted neuro-rehabilitation and pedestrian navigation systems for blind people.
