Dr. Edel B. García Reyes is graduated of Mathematic - Cybernetic from University of Havana, in 1986 and received the Ph Doctor's degree in Technical Sciences at the Technical Military Institute “José Martí” of Havana, in 1997. He presented his thesis “Applications of Neural Network for Remote Sensing Image Classification”. Currently, he is working as the Coordinator of the CVIG Department (Computer Vision and Interaction Graphics) in the CCG/ZGDV Institute in Portugal. He has participated as member of technical committees and experts' groups, including the International Congress of Geology, Havana, The National Program of Global Changes, Havana (2000-2013) and the Subcommittee of Scientific Grades of Geodesy and Cartography, Havana (1999-2001), Iberoamerican Congress on Pattern Recognition, Havana (2008, 2014). He served as President of Cuban Association for Pattern Recognition. He received the National Award For Innovation 2018 and three National Awards of Cuban Academic of Sciences. He received the medal “Pablo Merino” of Cuban Society of Mathematic and Computation. He received Medal Carlos Juan Finlay, 2020. He is a tenured academic at the Cuban Academy of Sciences from 2012 until now. Dr. Edel has been reviewer for different conferences, academic congress and journals as Pattern Recognition Letter, Pattern Recognition, Journal of Real-Time Image Processing, International Journal of Imaging Systems and Technology (IJIST-Wiley), etc. Dr. Edel worked in the Cuban Institute of Geodesy and Cartography (1987-1995) and in the Enterprise Group GeoCuba (1995-2001) where he was Head of the Data Centre Agency and Head of Computer Science Agency (1998-2001). Dr. Edel was working in Logistics of the Managerial Group CUBALSE (2001-2003). Head of Pattern Recognition Department, CENATAV (2004-2006). Research Deputy Director, CENATAV (2007-2008) and Principal Researcher from 2009. Head of Pattern Recognition team from 2014 to 2020. He was a visiting researcher and professor to National Laboratory of Pattern Recognition of China, and University of Shenzhen, China. He is member of the Expert Committee of National Research Program for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (2021-2022) GEOCUBA IC (2020-2022). Senior Researcher. Working on precision agriculture for different temporal cultivates, rice and sugarcane. Employing of artificial intelligence in the classification of satellite and drones images.
