0About Me
João Mendes holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Instituto Politécnico de Bragança, Portugal, and a master's degree in Industrial Engineering from the same institution. He completed his PhD in Engineering and Systems at the University of Minho, with the thesis entitled "Algorithms Based on Deep Learning in the Context of Agriculture 4.0". He is part of the research team at the Center for Research in Digitization and Intelligent Robotics (CeDRI). He previously served as a higher technician on the OleaChain project: Skills for sustainability and innovation in the value chain of traditional olive groves in the Northern Interior of Portugal. In this role, he was responsible for data analysis and processing, algorithm development, modeling, optimization, simulation, and the application of artificial intelligence techniques. He developed software for classifying different olive tree varieties in the region through leaf analysis using AI algorithms. He is currently involved in the iCarbono project, where he continues to leverage his expertise in data analysis, artificial intelligence, and software development. His main research interests include big data, machine learning, data analysis and processing, predictive methods, and Industry 4.0.
