About Me

Regina Sousa has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Minho, Portugal, with a thesis centered on Big Data Processing in Healthcare Institutions. Throughout her academic career, she worked on several academic projects in which she gained valuable knowledge in the field of information systems work. She acquired knowledge in the areas of knowledge engineering, systems analysis, data mining, software development, data warehousing, data analysis and data mining, artificial and business intelligence, interoperability, and systems integration. In 2017, she began her research career as a master's student in a joint research project with TecMinho called DermoID - Center for Research and Development of Dermocosmetics. She created a platform for intelligent, real-time monitoring of existing interoperability agents for his master's thesis on topics related to interoperability in healthcare institutions. In September 2019 she joined the PhD program in Biomedical Engineering. Over the past years, she has participated in several R&D projects in the context of the design and integration of different Information Systems in several Portuguese hospitals. In 2020 she participated as a research collaborator in two Erasmus + KA2 projects, namely DRIVES - Development and Research in Innovative Professional Educational Skills and DS&AI - Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, both focused on the development of educational skills. She also has experience as a researcher in two projects, one resulting from the partnership between Bosch and the University of Minho under the project called: Smart Facturing and another project called "Integrated and Innovative Solutions for the well-being of people in complex urban centers" whose focus is Smart Cities, resulting from the partnership between Quadrilátero and the ALGORITMI Center. She has already been an invited assistante in the course of Information Systems at the Piaget Institute of Vila Nova de Gaia and in the course of Data Modelling and Management at the School of Engineering and Technology, AIT, Thailand. She recently became an invited assistant at the University of Minho. She is author of 25 indexed articles published in scientific journals, 4 in the Q2 quartile, 2 in the Q3 quartile, and 13 in the Q4 quartile. In parallel, she was editor of a book for IGI Global, called "Big Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence in the Healthcare Industry".
