Ergonomics & Human Factors Group (EHF)
The Ergonomics and Human Factors (E&HF) research group develops its activities with the aim of understanding the interactions between humans and other elements of a system, not only by addressing the most current research challenges with a multidisciplinary approach, but also by applying theory, principles, data, modelling, and other methods to design, in order to optimise both human well-being and overall system performance.
The group has been addressing several research topics, including (but not limited to) physical ergonomics, occupational biomechanics, workplaces simulation, risk assessment, integration models for multimodal perception, assessment of the user’s behaviour and human performance, and analysis of human-machine interface. Research efforts have been particularly focused on the study of the human factors in production systems, involving the topics of physical risk factors, workplaces’ and products’ ergonomics, and risk prevention and safety performance in different environments. The research of the ergonomics and human factors within occupational settings is particularly important, as the impact of accidents and professional diseases caused by technology and work systems may affect the economy and constitute an unacceptable burden of suffering. The group has also been involved in the development of cutting-edge technologies, namely in the development and testing of state-of-the-art interfaces, as well as on the topic of cities sustainable development from an occupational standpoint.
The group is composed by a multidisciplinary team of faculty, post-doctoral researchers, and graduate students, with education background in engineering, psychology, medicine, nursing, environmental health and design, to name a few.
