Eduardo B. Pinto is a Program Manager at CCG - University of Minho for multidisciplinary R&D collaborative University-Industry funded contracts. He managed HMIExcel – a R&D Program between University of Minho and BOSCH Car Multimedia S.A. (Ref. nº 36265/2013) - Critical R&D regarding the development and production of advanced car
multimedia solutions. The HMIExcel program embraced an investment of 19.2 M€ and involved around 300 people during two years. The program comprised fourteen multidisciplinary R&D projects combined into three application domains: product development, quality control, and production. The main science and technology areas were: electronics and instrumentation, information technology, mechanical technologies and materials, industrial engineering and management, and human factors. His main functions and responsibilities were related to assuring program: strategic alignment, benefits management, stakeholder’s involvement, and governance. He is starting to manage a new R&D program, also between University of Minho and BOSCH Car Multimedia S.A., named Innovative Car HMI which foresees an investment of 56.7 M€ for the next three years. Since 2010, is Member of the Board of Directors of the international network GraphicsMedia.Net based in Kaiserslautern founded in 2010, that coordinates the activities of research and development, the technology transfer and the exploitation in Computer Graphics, Multimodal-Multimedia Technologies and Visual Interactive Digital Media & 3D Video Technologies. The members of GraphicsMedia.net are international institutions with a focus in applied research. These are Independent Applied R&D Institutes (public/private), R&D Units of Multinational Companies and Multinational hi-tech technology transfer companies. The members are located in Germany, Italy, Panama, Portugal, and Spain with together about 650 full time researchers, plus 360 assistants/students and aggregated project volume of yearly € 39 million, and about 140 publications in high ranking international journals and conferences.( http://www.graphicsmedia.net/ ) From November 2005 to January 2014 he served as Executive Director of a Portuguese applied research institute between the University and Industry in the field of Information and Communication Technologies: CCG – Centro de Computação Gráfica (www.ccg.pt ). Reporting to the Administration Board he provided vision, leadership and direction to execute the organization’s strategic program’s goals. He represented the organization program to key stakeholders, including top tier partners, industry, academia and start-up community. He directed all business and technical operations, defining directions at key decision points in order to ensure the settled strategy ensuring the development and successful execution of strategic plans while staying within schedule and budget. He raised Centro de Computação Gráfica from 173.000€ in services to industry and 9 collaborators in rent facilities  to a sustainable R&D Institute with 1.250.000€ in services to industry and 50 collaborators in their own facilities . He holds a degree in Industrial Electronics Engineering and a master’s degree in Industrial Electronics – Automation and Robotics, both from the University of Minho. He is responsible for various communications and author of some publications in the area of University- Industry collaborations and his main research topics are in University-Industry Collaboration, Technological Change and Innovation and Knowledge creation & sharing.
