Cristina P Santos(DEng, Msc, PhD), is an Assistant Professor at UMinho, at the Department of Industrial Electronics and a researcher at Research Center CMEMs at the University of Minho, Portugal, where she is responsible for courses in Robotics, Computer Vision, Machine learning and Control and heads the research team on
Medical Robotics & Locomotion (BIRd Lab). She was Head Director of Integrated Master in Biomedical Engineering (2013-2015) and is currently a member of the Directive Board . She received the B.S. degree in Industrial Electronics, the M.Sc degree in Robotics, and the Ph.D. degree in Robotics in the field of Nonlinear dynamics, all from University of Minho, Guimaraes, Portugal, in 1994, 1998 and 2003 respectively. The PhD was also in collaboration with the CNRS-CNRC Marseille, France, during which she was a member of the ‘Equipe de Dynamique’, at the ‘Centre de Recherche en Neurosciences Cognitives’ at CNRS in Marseille, France.Her work focuses on methods to characterize human motion, the study of human locomotion, Human-Robot Interaction & Collaboration, medical devices, and the neuro-rehabilitation of patients suffering from motor problems by means of bio-inspired robotics and neuroscience technologies. Her research seeks to advance the sciences of biomechanics, neuro-physiology and applications of ICT to design of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies to improve gait recovery processes. She has also been supervising rehabilitation related works with smart walkers, orthosis and synergies in exoskeletons and cycling in stroke and Parkinson patients.She has been PI, Co-PI, or member in several national projects (H2020-PT, FCT) in the area of ICT/robotics and health care. Actually, she supervises 5 PhD and 13 MSc thesis and supervised 8 PhD and more than 50 master thesis in these topics. She is a member of the program committee of international conferences on robotics. Her work has been awarded several 1st and 2nd prizes in rehabilitation (Premio Jaime Filipe, Instituto Nacional de Reabilitação 2016,2017 1nd 2018) and the 1st prize in Master category of FraunHofer Portugal Challenge. Several journal publications were in the top ranking. She is co-author of more than 100 indexed (e.g. ISI, Scopus) publications in international peer-reviewed journals and proceedings in CORE/SCOPUS/ISI international scientific conferences in these areas (e.g. IROS, ICRA). She has a total of 1359 Google Scholar citations (h index of 20, i10 index of 35), 699 Scopus citations (h index of 14) and 558 Researcher-ID citations (h index of 11). She has been reviewer/evaluator in service of the European Comission, and has been reviewer in several journals and CORE Conferences on robotics. She also has collaborations with rehabilitation enterprises, coordinates P2020 projects and a direct involvement with end-user groups, in Braga Hospital, that will ensure that actual user needs are addressed by the prototype platforms.
