Assistant Professor on Numerical Methods and Applied Statistics at the School of Engineering, University of Minho (UMinho), in Portugal. Celina Pinto Leão is a researcher in the Algoritmi Research Center in the “Systems Engineering and Operational Research (SEOR)" research group. Her research interests are in the domain of Numerical
and Statistical Methods in Engineering, Quantitative and Qualitative techniques in Engineering, and in the application of new methodologies in the learning process of Numerical Methods and Statistics in Engineering. Recently, she is interested in the analysis and application of statistical models for decision making and in the Occupational Safety field as a support tool, in particular, in risk decisions, and Engineering Gender Studies.She is also a member of the Directive Board of the Integrated Master (IMSc.) course in Industrial Management and Engineering, at UMinho.Celina Pinto Leão has been a Leader of two national externally funded research projects in the domains of Policies of Higher Education and Science, a member of five national externally funded research projects in the domains of Numerical Methods and Statistics, and a member of one European funded research project in the domain of Gender Equality. She also participated in multidisciplinary projects (with collaboration of colleagues from different departments of School of Engineering, UMinho, developed with and for students (Serious Game to Enhance Students’ Learning of Statistics, since 2016, Leader; and ICTs in engineering education: application of new methodologies in engineering education and assessment (Teaching Numerical Methods, Process Control and Automation), since 2004, team Member).She was the supervisor of more than 15 (concluded) MSc. and IMSc. theses and of 3 concluded PhD theses. Currently she supervises 1 PhD ongoing project, and a 1 sandwich PhD in collaboration with the Federal University of Paraíba (Brazil).She participated in scientific committees and organize member of international congresses, and as a reviewer of international journals.She is a member of the ASME (since 2011), IEEE (since 2010), and IEEE WiE-Portugal (since 2011). Founding Member of the Sociedade Portuguesa do Ensino da Engenharia, SPEE (Portuguese Society for Engineering Education), since 2010. Founding member of the affinity group of the IEEE WiE Portugal (Women in Engineering, Portugal).
