Adérito Fernandes Marcos received a five years degree in Computer Science Engineering from the Nova University of Lisbon; a Ph.D. suma cum laude in Computer Graphics and Information Systems from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany; and a Full Professor Habilitation in Technology and Information Systems from the University of
Minho. For six years he co-operated with the Fraunhofer Institute IGD in Darmstadt, Germany, starting as a Guest Researcher, Project Leader and then Senior Researcher. Starting in November 1997 and for two years he was the co-director of the Computer Graphics Centre - CCG, in Coimbra, Portugal, as a member of the Board of Directors, being also the Director of the Department of Telework, Visualization and Multimedia Technologies. Dr. Marcos was the Executive Director of the Centro de Computação Gráfica - CCG, Guimarães, Portugal , from October 1999 until November 2005. He is currently Full Professor for Computer Science at Universidade Aberta, Lisbon.He was a Professor for Multimedia Tech. at University of Minho, Dept. of Information Systems, Guimarães, Portugal from Jan. 2000 until Aug. 2009. In this position he has been responsible for the design of diverse curricula in the fields of Multimedia and Information Systems for graduation and post-graduation courses. Prof. Marcos is author and co-author of several publications, short communications and book chapters in the fields of Multimedia, Cooperative Work, Virtual Reality and Computer Arts. He was the author and principal manager of several R&D projects in the mentioned fields, especially considering the area of the technology application and transfer to end-user solutions. His interests go now primarily to Computer and Applied Arts, Computer Graphics and, Education, Cultural Heritage scenarios. Models and vision lines for the construction of the Information Society in a broad way, based in the application and adaptation of the computers and systems to end-users and institutions represents his major area of current study.He is an external regular consultant for IT at National Agency for Innovation in Portugal, ZGDV in Germany. Prof. Marcos was a member of the Board of Trustees and of the Advisory Board of the INI-GraphicsNet Foundation (until Dec. 2009) and is a member of ACM, IEEE, EUROGRAPHICS, SIGGRAPHICS and the Portuguese Association of Multimedia. Prof. Marcos is President of the Executive Board of the Portuguese Chapter of EUROGRAPHICS and member of the same board of the EUROGRAPHICS association itself.
